The Purple Cow

Mr.Entrepreneur, can we pick both?

Let’s talk about entrepreneurs who love selling products.

They are obsessed about their business. Their ideas. Their market share and well, let’s give it to them, their products too.

But here is the tricky part. Some of them are madly convinced that it’s the usability that matters. The way their product works.

How fast it performs, how much time it saves for the user, how rugged and enduring it is, well, you can say how “effective” it is. In terms of its functionality.

This entrepreneur believes it begins and ends at “the mechanics”.

And they forget about everything else.

While there is another set of entrepreneurs who believe it’s all about looks. The style. The beauty. The way it is designed. The simplicity of use and portability.

This entrepreneur believes it begins and ends at “the aesthetics”.

And they forget about everything else.

As users, what really delights you is not just one of them. But the miraculous combination of beauty and usability. An amazing example is an iPhone. Or an Audi car.

So here’s a shout out to all the tech entrepreneurs out there, “Don’t ask us to pick only one half of what a truly magical product should be. Can’t we pick both the halves?"
